The creative team behind Fast 9 is still celebrating its pandemic-best $70 million opening weekend and one of the film’s stars is already thinking about the future and who she wants to see return before they wrap up the saga.

Jordana Brewster, who returns as Dom’s (Vin Diesel) sister and Brian’s (the late Paul Walker) wife Mia after sitting out for the last film, talked with “Looper” about which character from the past films she wants to see make a comeback and the actress believes that Eva Mendes, who played undercover FBI agent Monica Fuentes in 2 Fast 2 Furious, should be the one to make a return:

“(I think) bringing back Eva Mendes would be such a good idea. I think that would be really cool. I think the fans love seeing how we play with time and how all the different chapters fit in together. So for her to come back, I think would be really exciting.”

Mendes’ Monica Fuentes made her debut in 2 Fast 2 Furious as an undercover FBI agent that worked with Brian O’Conner (Walker) and Roman Pearce (Tyrese Gibson) to bring down crime boss Carter Verone (Cole Hauser). Since Brewster’s Mia was absent from the second film, she also served as a bit of a love interest for Brian. The relationship was eventually dropped as the series saw a soft reboot with The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift but Monica did appear again in the mid-credits scene of Fast Five where she hands Luke Hobbs (Dwayne Johnson) a file that revealed that Letty Ortiz (Michelle Rodriguez) was alive after the events of 2009’s Fast & Furious.

Getting Mendes to come back would mean pulling her out of what appears to be a bit of retirement. Mendes hasn’t appeared in a film since 2014’s Lost River and that’s because the actress opted to focus on raising her two daughters with actor Ryan Gosling. If it felt right, I’m sure Mendes could be convinced to come back and it might make for some compelling tension between her character and Mia since they both have a connection to Brian.

Would YOU want to see Eva Mendes return to the Fast franchise?
