Fear the Walking Dead may have just set up an Abraham and Daniel movie

When it was announced that a character from The Walking Dead would be appearing on Fear the Walking Dead season 4, the most logical theory was that the character would be Abraham Ford, played by Michael Cudlitz. Although Abraham was killed in the season 7 premiere of The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead was set much earlier in the zombie apocalypse timeline – apparently the season 3 finale of Fear happens around the same time as the season 1 finale of its companion series, and Abraham didn't show up on The Walking Dead until late in its fourth season, so there was time to work with here. Plus the Fear characters had recently moved into Texas, and Abraham was from Texas. It would have been the perfect way to bring Abraham back to our screens, going back a couple years and seeing him before he left Texas.

Instead, Fear had a massive time jump, its timeline shifting ahead to a time between The Walking Dead's eighth and ninth seasons so the crossover character could be Morgan Jones.

There was an Easter egg nod to Abraham in Fear season 4, though. When the newly introduced character Althea revealed that she had been going around doing on-camera interviews with any fellow survivor that would agree to it, it was shown that one of the tapes in her collection was labeled "Abe / Doctor", implying that at one point she had met and interviewed Abraham and his traveling companion Eugene.

On last night's season 5 episode of Fear the Walking Dead, there may have been another Abraham Easter egg, and this one might have been setting up a TV movie that will see Abraham hanging out with my favorite Fear character, Daniel Salazar, who is played by Ruben Blades. The rumor that AMC is working on such a TV movie has very quietly been spreading over the last several months, and a moment in the episode Skidmark seems to confirm it. Toward the end of the episode, Daniel welcomes a group of people into the warehouse of supplies he has been staying in, and says the only thing off limits to them is a cigar. "A friend asked me to save this, for when things get better."

Of course, any number of random people could have given Daniel that cigar. But when you combine the crossover TV movie rumor with the fact that Abraham was a cigar enthusiast, the moment takes on a greater importance. It could be the set-up for a story that flashes back to the time when Abraham and Daniel became friends, ending with Abraham moving on and giving Daniel the cigar as a parting gift.

During a recent interview, Cudlitz indicated that he will be wading back into the zombie apocalypse soon, saying that AMC is planning to make The Walking Dead movies that

are gonna move in time, go back in time, go forward in time, and I believe pair up characters that weren't necessarily paired up in the graphic novels."

Will he be coming back on one of the shows or in one of those movies?

A strong, subtle yes. Very, very possible."

So we may finally be getting the logical crossover between The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead characters, we'll just need a flashback TV movie to get it. I'm all for this "Abraham meets Daniel" movie, that team-up sounds like a lot of fun to me.
