Fede Alvarez: Don’t Breathe 2 and new Texas Chainsaw Massacre are fantastic

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Evil Dead 2013 (watch it HERE) and Don't Breathe (watch that one HERE) director Fede Alvarez is currently doing the press rounds for his AppleTV+ series Calls, which has no on screen actors and centers on "an apocalyptic anomaly allowing average people to communicate with the past and future, just by dialing the phone" – and of course, when a filmmaker is promoting one project, it's common to ask them what they have coming up next. Alvarez recently produced two high profile genre films, the long-awaited Don't Breathe 2 and a modern day sequel to the classic The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (which you can see HERE), and during a conversation with Discussing Film he revealed that he has watched cuts of both of those films.

Alvarez said,

Don’t Breathe 2 is actually coming out this year. It’s done already. I watched it not too long ago and it’s fantastic. So I just really can’t wait for you guys to see it. Two of the movies I made as a producer and also writer, obviously Don’t Breathe 2 and also this year Texas Chainsaw Massacre will be coming out, which is also fantastic. Both movies… I think we’re all craving for that horror experience again in a theater, to be surrounded with people and get the best. So I think that these two movies, hopefully, will be my contribution this year for the world of horror fans. Just to go bananas in the theater watching them, because both of them are pretty insane and crazy. They’re pretty out there when it comes to horror movies. So fans will get a lot this year with those films. Hopefully by the time they come out, the world would have gone back to normal and we’ll get together in a theater and go crazy.

Set to reach theatres on August 13, Don't Breathe 2 was directed by Alvarez's frequent collaborator Rodo Sayagues from a script he wrote with Alvarez. Stephen Lang reprises the role of the Blind Man in the sequel, which is set

several years after the home invasion of the first movie, with the Blind Man living in quiet solace… until his past sins catch up to him.

The Blind Man has been hiding out for years in an isolated cabin and has taken in and raised a young girl orphaned from a house fire. Their quiet existence is shattered when a group of kidnappers show up and take the girl, forcing the Blind Man to leave his safe haven to save her.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel doesn't have a release date yet, but it was directed by David Blue Garcia from a screenplay by Chris Thomas Devlin. Alvarez has described it as a direct sequel to the original Chainsaw, and said it will feature "Old Man Leatherface". The film stars Elsie Fisher, Sarah Yarkin, Moe Dunford, Jacob Latimore, Nell Hudson, Jessica Allain, Sam Douglas, William Hope, and Jolyon Coy, with Mark Burnham as Leatherface and Olwen Fouéré as original Chainsaw survivor Sally Hardesty.

Alvarez and Sayagues produced Don't Breathe 2 with Sam Raimi and Robert Tapert, and produced the Texas Chainsaw Massacre sequel with Pat Cassidy, Ian Henkel, and Kim Henkel.
