First look at Jack Black as R.L. Stine in Goosebumps!

One of the more intriguing offerings at next week’s San Diego Comic-Con will be Sony’s GOOSEBUMPS, inspired by the series of beloved R.L. Stine books. Jack Black is playing Stine (a version of him, anyway) in the film, and Entertainment Weekly (via Dread Central) has just debuted a couple of stills showing the comedian’s new look.

The film is evidently being done in the tradition of the classic Amblin movies from the 80s (GREMLINS, THE GOONIES, etc), and I’ve heard they’re using tons of practical effects and make-up. As you can see, zombies play a part in the tale, but we can expect all sorts of ghastly monsters to turn up in this one. I was personally never a huge fan of the books, but I’m still quite hopeful the movie will be a fun ride.

Directed by Rob Letterman, GOOSEBUMPS opens on August 7, 2015. We’ve got some waiting to do; hopefully some footage will be shown at Comic-Con next week during Sony’s panel.
