As part of Disney XD’s Marvel block on Sunday nights, The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes now has a trailer to showcase what’s in store for the second season. Premiering alongside Ultimate Spider-Man, the new season showcases a number of changes and additions, many of which fall in line with the opening of THE AVENGERS movie.

Captain America and Nick Fury are now rocking their Ultimates uniforms, Iron Man’s armor is updated to reflect the triangle chest reactor, Thor is in his current movie/comic duds, and the Hulk gets…purple biker shorts. In addition, there are a number of new characters popping up, including Ms. Marvel (in old school uniform), the Guardians of the Galaxy, Dr. Doom, Red Hulk, Invisible Woman and the Kree race, as well as the Skrulls. The new season should wrap up season one’s cliffhanger and looks to dive into the Kree/Skrull war and maybe even Secret Invasion.
This is a solid show that addresses a lot of story threads from the comics, while tying the characters into their movie format quite nicely (and even more so for this new season). The animation isn’t as strong as Justice League, but it’s damn close and similar in style and action, which is pretty kick ass. Give it a shot if you’re on the fence (and catch up with season one on Netflix streaming).
The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes: Season 2 premieres on April 1, 2012 (no foolin’). Along with Game of Thrones, I can now count on a regular Sunday night nerdgasm. Nice.
