It’s time for a new episode of the Best Horror Movie You Never Saw video series – and this one looks back at a “cheesy zombie movie” that I consider to be one of the most purely entertaining films ever made, 1988’s FleshEater (get it HERE). FleshEater was directed by Bill Hinzman, who played the Cemetery Ghoul – the first flesh-eating zombie ever to grace the screen – in George A. Romero’s classic Night of the Living Dead. Hinzman also wrote the screenplay with Bill Randolph, crafting the following story:
Just when you thought the dead were buried… Experience your most dreadful nightmare become reality as an innocent outdoor sleepover becomes an endless night of sheer terror! Eddie and eight of his friends planned to spend one night on Spencer’s farm. What they hadn’t planned on was falling prey to the flesh-hungry ‘undead’! As the blood spills and the body count climbs, so do the odds against the survivors as each murdered victim rises again to feed on the helpless living.
Hinzman stars in the film as the titular zombie and is joined in the cast by John Mowod, Leslie Ann Wick, Kevin Kindlin, Charis Kirkpatrik Acuff, James J. Rutan, Lisa Smith, Denise Morrone, Mark Strycula, Kathleen Marie Rupnik, Matthew C. Danilko, David Ashby, Terrie Godfrey, Susan Marie Spier, Heidi Hinzman, Bonnie Hinzman, Rik Billock, Dave Kelly, Taryn Thomas, Steven B. Sands, Adena Dodds, Andrew Sands, Vincent Survinski, and William Andrew Laczko.
Our Best Horror Movie You Never Saw series is dedicated to highlighting horror films that, for one reason or another, don’t get as much love as we think they should. We know plenty of you horror hounds out there will have seen many of the movies we pick, but there will be plenty of you who have not.
