Flying V! Emilio Estevez to lead The Mighty Ducks revival on Disney+

Someone bust out the Duck call and assemble the Bash Brothers, because it's been reported that Emilio Estevez is set to return as Coach Gordon Bombay for the Mighty Ducks series that is destined to fly on Disney+!

Estevez starred in both THE MIGHTY DUCKS and its sequel D2: THE MIGHTY DUCKS. He also appeared in the third film in the franchise, D3: THE MIGHTY DUCKS, though because of scheduling conflicts, his role was reduced to a cameo. In the original film, Bombay arrives as a hubristic defense attorney who, after winning his thirtieth case, is promptly arrested for drunk driving and is sentenced to 500 hours of community service. As per the punishment, he's enlisted as the coach of the local "District 5" Pee-Wee hockey team, as populated by a rag-tag group of adolescents who barely know how to skate, let alone handle a puck. As a veteran of the game with sour memories to haunt him, Bombay struggles to whip the team into shape while also keeping his inner hockey demons at bay. Before long, Bombay realizes that the team has potential, and thus the journey toward teaching them how to fly begins.

According to The Illuminerdi, who exclusisvely broke the news about Estevez reprising his role for the Disney+ series, the series focuses on a 13-year-old boy who gets kicked himself off the junior division Mighty Ducks team. He and his mom decide to start their own team, finding players, a coach, and a place to play.

So far, a selection of character breakdowns for players of the ten-episode, half-hour series have been released:

Adib Samitar/”Sam”: an 11 to 13 year old African American or Somali boy. Sam has mastered skateboard riding and always does things his way. The thrill-seeker rarely turns down a challenge, even deciding to befriend Evan after a violent collision on his trusty board. He joins the squad after realizing that he will be allowed to be a renegade.

Koob: A shy, heavy-set kid who will never be mistaken for an Olympian, but instead is a hardcore video game player whose skin is pale from long hours of marathon gaming in his downstairs man cave. Though he rarely breaks focus from his monitors, he proves to have an almost superhuman level of dexterity and reflexes that are worthy of a kung-fu master. Koob is wary of joining the squad and will need to be dragged out of his safe space.

Nick: Likes to pretend he has his own imaginary tv show.

Mary: Only described as the popular girl both on the team and at school.

Lauren: An unpopular girl who likes to wear wings and a cape at school and pretend she’s a fairy-magician. Try to be friends with the more popular Mary but she ignores her.

The Mighty Ducks series is set to begin filming this March in Vacouver with CUBAN FURY director James Griffiths at the helm. Moreover, original trilogy screenwriter Steven Brill and original producer Jordan Kerner are also said to be on board, while Josh Goldsmith, Cathy Yuspa, George Heller and Brad Petrigala will all executive produce the series with Brill.
