Four sleek new posters for Keanu Reeves’ 47 Ronin arrive; trailer expected this week

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

The first posters for 47 RONIN, the samurai action pic starring Keanu Reeves has begun its marketing push, releasing four new character posters for the film, all of which look surprisingly cool. I say surprisingly, because it's no secret that 47 RONIN has been a troubled production, having issues with budget and first-time helmer Carl Rinsch, who helped win the gig with his short film THE GIFT. However, it's impossible to tell if any of those issues have affected the film as we haven't seen any real footage or images until now. In addition, the studio has released the official synopsis.

Check out the goods below:

"From ancient Japan’s most enduring tale, the epic 3D fantasy-adventure 47 Ronin is born. Keanu Reeves leads the cast as Kai, an outcast who joins Oishi (Hiroyuki Sanada), the leader of the 47 outcast samurai. Together they seek vengeance upon the treacherous overlord who killed their master and banished their kind. To restore honor to their homeland, the warriors embark upon a quest that challenges them with a series of trials that would destroy ordinary warriors."

The trailer is expected to drop sometime this week, so we'll finally be able to get a grasp on just what 47 RONIN brings to the table. The concept sounds pretty cool and Reeves has done better in his martial arts/action films than he has in just about everything else, so there's certainly an opportunity that this could be something really great…or really terrible. We'll have an idea very soon.

47 RONIN, starring Keanu Reeves, Rinko Kikuchi, Hiroyuki Sanada, Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa is set for release on December 25, 2013.
