August 2008. That was the last time we heard anything regarding Stephen Kay’s (above) CELL 213. That’s almost two years people! Considering CELL 213 was oozing potential that’s a long ass time to wait for an update! But worry not, because today I’ve got a nice juicy update for you all regarding CELL 213!
You see, Freestyle Releasing recently snatched CELL 213 up for distribution at this year’s Cannes and plan on releasing the flick this Fall! Nice! So we go from hearing nothing at all about this flick for almost two years right to anticipating it’s release in just a few months…. Works for me! I’m even going to give you guys a refresher on what CELL 213 is all about!
Cell 213 becomes home to Michael Gray a cocky young attorney after a gruesome twist of circumstance lands him in the South River State Penitentiary, framed for the murder of an incarcerated client. Unnatural forces are causing prisoners to ‘off’ themselves at abnormal rates and Michael soon discovers that matters of guilt and innocence are not as cut and dry as he would like to believe trapped in this nightmarish cell.
The film stars Eric Balfour, Michael Rooker, and Deborah Valente. No word on an actual release date but we do know this one will be coming at us sometime this Fall. As always, keep it here for more on CELL 213 as we hear it!
