So wait a minute… we’re not all done with the FRIDAY THE 13TH talk? We know Jason’s newest adventure broke records. We also know a sequel is already being pegged for August 13, 2010. Not to mention the fact that the film took a massive dive in it’s second week. Plus Platinum Dunes are now set to visit Elm Street for the next several months.
So what’s this I hear about some rumblings concerning FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2? Platinum Dunes aren’t ones to dabble in future projects while they’re concentrating on another. But alas, The Hollywood Reporter’s Risky Business Blog sites some reliable sources saying that Damian Shannon and Mark Swift are already being asked to pen the script for FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2. The duo of Shannon and Swift are of course the guys that penned both FREDDY VS JASON and the new FRIDAY THE 13TH movie.
Word seems to be out on what we can expect with this sequel too: ‘the new “Friday” is expected to be not a sequel so much as a follow-up, those familiar with the project say. Jason Voorhees will be the villain, of course, but the new picture is expected to use elements of the original franchise more as a jumping-off point than as a template.’ The blog also mentions how Platinum Dunes aren’t keen on the franchise’s entries after PART 4. And apparently chances are director Marcus Nispel won’t be returning to helm the sequel. No suprirse there seeing how he wasn’t the first choice for FRIDAY THE 13TH anyway.
As for stars Jared Padalecki and Amanda Righetti (below)? No word yet on that. I’m going to go ahead and assume the two would be up for cameos of some sort but I’m guessing this new installment will center on a whole new group of teens… and there’s nothing wrong with that! Don’t expect much more FRIDAY THE 13TH 2 news with A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET right around the corner, but we’ll keep you updated on whatever we hear.
