Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi's WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS is one hell of a film, so it was perfectly natural to be apprehensive when it was announced that a TV adaptation was in the works at FX. However, against all odds, the TV series has been received remarkably well, and it was announced today that FX had renewed the series for a second season.

What We Do in the Shadows follows three vampires, Nandor (Kayvan Novak), Lazslo (Matt Berry), and Nadja (Natasia Demetriou), who have been roommates for hundreds and hundreds of years in Staten Island. The ten-episode second season of What We Do in the Shadows will debut in 2020. "Jemaine Clement, Taika Waititi and Paul Simms have more than delivered on the high expectations of Shadows fans by adapting the cult classic for television and building a passionate base of new and returning fans," said Nick Grad, President of Original Programming, FX Networks and FX Productions. "We also want to thank the rest of the creative team, including Scott Rudin, Garrett Basch and Eli Bush, and the incredible cast and crew for delivering such a fun and original series, and we look forward to working with them all on season two."

In addition to the TV series, Jemaine Clement and Taika Waititi have also been slowly working on a werewolf-centric sequel to the original film. Waititi spoke with i09 about the project, which goes under the working title WE'RE WOLVES, back in 2017.

It is slowly developing at the slow pace Jemaine [Clement] and I usually work, which is excruciatingly slow. So while we do these things on the side we do slowly chip away at that thing and write down ideas. But we usually write down like one sentence a month.

What We Do in the Shadows is still in the midst of its first season, with the finale set to debut on May 29th.
