No, it’s not PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES, but it sounds like it could sit next to it on a shelf labeled “period zombie comedies”: According to Screen Daily, classy thesps Gillian Anderson, Ian McKellen and Judi Dench are all attached to Matthew Butler’s 18th Century zombie opus THE CURSE OF THE BUXOM STRUMPET.

The feature is an extension of Butler’s short comedy film “E’gad Zombies,” which starred McKellen (he narrates as well). Here’s the short film’s synopsis, via the production company’s official site: Once upon a time, somewhere in England…well, the 1700’s actually in a town called Upper Trollop …there lived a poet named William Filthe`. He was in love with the beautiful though slightly terrifying Vanity Banks, and had decided that as soon as she stopped throwing vegetables at him, they would marry. What neither of them had realised was that an illness was slowly infecting the inhabitants of sleepy Upper Trollop, making them all rather…bitey…

Mark Williams is also in the cast for the film, which is looking to shoot in Scotland later this year -although according to the company’s website, McKellen has already shot his scenes and recorded his narration, thanks to his commitment to THE HOBBIT… Butler co-wrote the script with Tori Hart, and both produce via their Ginger and Fizz banner.
