God Is a Bullet: Maika Monroe vs. a Satanic cult in Nick Cassavetes film

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Actor turned writer/director Nick Cassavetes, best known to many as the director of The Notebook but to me as the villain in The Wraith (buy it HERE), is six weeks into production on his latest movie, God Is a Bullet… and when I first received the press release for this one, I didn't see how it was Arrow in the Head material. Even though one of the first look images features a heavily tattooed version of genre regular Maika Monroe, this appeared to be a regular crime thriller. Then I got to the plot synopsis, and its talk of a Satanic cult.

Based on a novel by Boston Teran (pick up a copy HERE), God Is a Bullet tells the following story:

When vice detective Bob Hightower (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) finds his ex-wife murdered and daughter kidnapped by a satanic cult, he is frustrated by bumbling botched official investigations. Bob quits the police force, gets tattoos, and infiltrates the cult to hunt down the charismatic cult leader, Cyrus, with the help of the cult’s only female victim escapee, the brilliantly damaged Case Hardin (Maika Monroe). Bob is led down the rabbit hole to save his daughter and Case seizes the opportunity to claim back her power from the cult that took so much away from her.

Monroe and Coster-Waldau are joined in the cast by January Jones, Jamie Foxx, Karl Glusman, David Thornton, Paul Johannson, Johnathan Tucker, Ethan Suplee, Garret Wareing, Brendan Sexton III, Virginia Cassavetes, and Chloe Guy.

God Is a Bullet is being produced by Don Allen and Patriot Pictures' Michael Mendelsohn. Kim H. Winther, Santiago Garcia Galvan, and Jim Steele are co-producers. Sidney Kimmel, Chuck Pacheco, Paul Johansson, and Natalie Perrotta serve as executive producers. Mendelsohn's Union Patriot Capital Management handled the financing. XYZ Films is representing worldwide sales. The Patriot Pictures and Union Patriot Capital Management team includes Anne Jordan, ESQ and Ryan Webb of Greenberg and Glusker.

Filming is taking place in Mexico City.

I look forward to seeing how this turns out, because I'm totally on board for a Nick Cassavetes movie about bringing down a cult. A batch of first look images can be seen below:
