The Amazon series Good Omens covered the events of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s novel Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter (buy a copy HERE) in the six episode first season – and now a second season that will go beyond the events of the book is filming in Scotland. Michael Sheen and David Tennant are reprising the roles of “Aziraphale, a fussy angel and rare book dealer, and the fast-living demon Crowley, an unlikely duo that teamed up to save the world from the apocalypse”, and now it has been confirmed (via The Wrap) that season 1 cast member Jon Hamm is also coming back as archangel Gabriel in Good Omens season 2.

Gaiman provided the following statement:

Good Omens 2 just would not be the same without the astonishing Jon Hamm as Gabriel, everyone’s worst boss. The story that Terry Pratchett and I created all those years ago continues to take us from London’s Soho into Heaven and Hell. It’s a delight for me to bring back characters we loved (or hated) and bring in new characters, from the shiniest top floors of Heaven to the dankest basements of Hell, to love (or to hate, or to love to hate or hate to love). All of them are part of the strange and unusually beloved family of Good Omens.”

Gaiman has written the new episodes of Good Omens with John Finnemore. Douglas Mackinnon, who directed the previous six episodes, is directing the new six as well. Mackinnon is also an executive producer and co-showrunner with Gaiman. Finnemore is another executive producer, as are Rob Wilkins and BBC Studios Productions’ Head of Comedy Josh Cole. The series is produced by Amazon Studios, BBC Studios Productions, The Blank Corporation, and Narrativia.

Mackinnon had this to say about Hamm’s return:

I couldn’t be happier that Jon has come back to do more Good Omens as the Archangel Gabriel, who is second in command in Heaven. He joins us nearly halfway through production, when we have already welcomed to the Good Omens 2 family familiar faces in familiar roles, familiar faces in unfamiliar roles, and unfamiliar faces in unfamiliar roles. We also have an unfamiliar face in a familiar role.”

Sheen, Tennant, and Hamm are joined in the cast by returning cast member Doon Mackichan as Archangel Michael, with Good Omens newcomers Gloria Obianyo, Liz Carr, and Quelin Sepulveda playing Uriel, Saraqael, and Muriel, respectively. Plus Shelley Conn is in there as “another key character from Hell”.

Here’s the set-up for season 2:

Having been on Earth since The Beginning and with the Apocalypse thwarted, Aziraphale and Crowley are getting back to easy living amongst mortals in London’s Soho when an unexpected messenger presents a surprising mystery.

Good Omens 2 is coming to Amazon sometime in 2022.
