Back in May we got word that a movie based on the R.L. Stine young adult horror series GOOSEBUMPS was in the works (check that shite out HERE). Today, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the film has scored a couple of writers to help bring it to the big screen!
Larry Karaszewski and Scott Alexander (the team that wrote 1408 and Tim Burton’s ED WOOD) have been tapped to write the first film adaptation of the “children’s” horror series. No story has been selected just yet (or at least, they haven’t release what the storyline will be), but it better be good, as Columbia Pictures is hoping this is the next big franchise along the likes of the HARRY POTTER series.
Why compare with POTTER? Because the GOOSEBUMPS series is second to POTTER in terms of the amount of dough Scolastics has made in book sales and whatnot. Much like POTTER, the film is looking to cast unknown kids in the lead roles, and established actors in the adult roles.
1408 kicked all kinds of ass and so did ED WOOD–it appears the adaptation is in good hands. When we hear more on GOOSEBUMPS (like who’ll be directing this badboy) you’ll be the first to know!
