Erotic thrillers – good erotic thrillers – are hard to come by nowadays. The genre has actually become something of a joke in American cinema; you really can only turn to Cinemax for a taste. Thank god continents like Europe and Asia still believe that you can make an erotic thriller and not have to resort to heated overacting and mellow jazz music.

Which brings me to THE HOUSEMAID, a film I wrote briefly about back in July. The South Korean Cannes entry was picked up by IFC, which consistently brings us the most interesting genre flicks from around the globe, and they’ve just released their new trailer and poster for the film. The trailer is rather beautiful, showcasing lush visuals while keeping the mysteries of the story in check. Do give it a peek below.

Eun-yi (Cannes Best Actress winner Jeon Do-youn of SECRET SUNSHINE) is hired as a nanny in an lavish mansion by businessman Hoon (Lee Jung-jae) and his very pregnant wife, Hae-ra (Seo Woo). When Eun-yi is seduced by the father of the house, she becomes the unwitting victim in a series of traps laid by the women of the house-Hae-ra, her villainous mother (Park Ji-young), and their seemingly loyal but increasingly bitter housekeeper (Yun Yeo-jong). Intensely erotic and fiendishly entertaining, THE HOUSEMAID builds to an unforgettable climax as Eun-yi must outwit them and escape their schemes to protect her sanity-and her life-from the vicious family.

THE HOUSEMAID opens on Friday, JANUARY 21st in NYC, and will expand nationwide beginning JANUARY 28th. It will be available On Demand beginning JANUARY 26th via Comcast, Cox, Cablevision, Time Warner, Bright House, Charter and Insight.
