Despite having a backlog of games a mile long to play, I am officially counting the days until Rockstar‘s Grand Theft Auto VI arrives. For years, my hype was nonexistent. Still, now that we have an official release date locked and loaded and today’s gorgeous launch trailer to help whet the appetite, it’s only a matter of time before I cave to that $100 pre-order. Do I feel like “part of the problem?” A little. But I’m also prone to FOMO in gaming. Hence, the extensive backlog.
Over a Decade in the Making—And It Shows
After giving GTA fans plenty of reasons to get excited about the studio’s long-gestating release, Rockstar’s new trailer for the latest chapter of the crime simulation saga is a testament to how much work has been poured into GTA 6 for roughly 12 to 13 years. From the game’s cinematic prowess and jaw-dropping graphics to its variety of gameplay modes and robust world of off-kilter characters, this is undoubtedly the most anticipated game launch in history.
Is Grand Theft Auto VI for everyone? Certainly not, but for those eager to experience Jason and Lucia’s story, time can’t move fast enough until the game is officially in our sweaty hands.
A Neon-Soaked Bonnie & Clyde in Modern Leonida
Set to “Flower in a Hurricane” by Justice, Tame Impala, SZA & King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, today’s launch trailer drops us into the heart of a sun-drenched, neon-soaked parody of modern Florida (dubbed the state of Leonida). Grand Theft Auto VI locks into the ride-or-die dynamic between Lucia and Jason, a criminal duo operating with pure Bonnie-and-Clyde energy. When an ambitious heist blows up in their faces, the pair gets dragged into a massive state-wide conspiracy, forcing them to hustle through everything from the slick, gleaming avenues of Vice City to murky, gator-infested backwaters. At its heart, it’s a story about trust, survival, and high-stakes crime, all wrapped in a blistering satire of modern 2020s social media brain rot and top-tier American absurdity.
A November Juggernaut Ready to Break Records
Rockstar stands to make an absolute mint on November 19, 2026, based purely on single-player sales alone. The studio will undoubtedly double down on that financial juggernaut once the next iteration of GTA Online eventually goes live, even if official details on the multiplayer side remain tightly under wraps.
