Production company Benderspink (THE RING, A HISTORY OF VIOLENCE) has optioned the rights to Black Bull Media’s two-issue comic book THE NEW WEST, originally written by Jimmy Palmiotti featuring art by Phil Noto. A post-apocalyptic western of sorts, the tale seems like an intriguing combination of BOOK OF ELI and ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK.
The story is set in a near-future Los Angeles where an electromagnetic pulse bomb has caused all technology to stop working. In this hostile environment a disgraced former LAPD detective must rescue a kidnapped mayor with only a horse and a sword.
Benderspink’s Chris Bender, JC Spink and Jake Weiner will produce along with Wizard Magazine and Black Bull Media founder Gareb Shamus. Now a screenwriter and director have to be found.
Benderspink made news a few days ago when it was announced the company is prepping the mutant bug flick JITTERS with director Mike Mitchell.
