Hush, Sonny. I've got some electrifying news to share. Paramount+ has officially ordered Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, a prequel series to the classic 1978 film.
Set four years before the original Grease, the 10-episode series explores how Rizzo, Frenchy, Marty, and Jan came together before ruling Rydell High in their senior year. The pickup stands as the first official scripted series order since PTVS President Nicole Clemens assumed a senior role at Paramount+. as President, Paramount+ Original Scripted Series. Originally, the concept had been given a straight-to-series order at HBO Max but has since changed hands.
The prequel is written and executive produced by creator Annabel Oakes (Atypical), who will also serve as showrunner. Marty Bowen will executive produce through Temple Hill, while Erik Feig will executive produce via Picturestart.
Released in 1978, Grease starred Olivia Newton-John as good girl Sandy Olsson and John Travolta as greaser Danny Zuko.
