In THE GREAT DEBATERS, his second directing effort (after ANTWONE FISHER), Denzel plays a professor in 1930s Texas who inspires his students to form a debate team. Turns out they’re so damn good at the talking thing, they get to challenge Harvard in a national championship.
Denzel looks like he might be plucking at Oscar voters’ heartstrings, but his movie is getting released on Christmas, the same day as an even bigger debate: ALIENS vs. PREDATOR: REQUIEM. May the best creature win.
