At this point, it seems like much of what was previously planned for the DC universe over at Warner Bros will be canceled in favor of a planned overhaul from new CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran. One such project that was on the horizon for the company was an HBO Max series centered around the character of the Green Lantern. Deadline reports that Gunn has responded to the news that the long developed show has been given the axe in accordance with his and Safran’s new ten-year plan.

Gunn took to his Twitter to address those claims in one word, “Fake.” This was in response to a now-deleted tweet from the Comic Book Resources publication account that claimed that the Green Lantern show, due to hit the streaming platform, was no longer going forward. The author has since deleted the initial tweet after Gunn’s single-word rebuttal.

Just prior to Gunn and Safran’s new positions had been appointed with the company, the show, which was in development since 2019, was announced to be completely retooled. At one point, the series was to focus on the character of Alan Scott as he had the powers bestowed upon him. The creator and writer, Seth Grahame-Smith, even finished scripts for eight episodes when the decision was made to change the show’s direction.

Arrow producer Greg Berlanti, who was also behind this project, teased that the show would be about “an anthology series of cautionary tales set in a world where superpowers exist, and, in what promises to be our biggest DC show ever made, we will be going to space with a Green Lantern television series, but I can’t reveal any more about that just yet.” He also boasted that the show’s space corp psychedelic nature is “unlike anything seen on television.”
