James Gunn says greatness awaits for his Guardians Holiday Special

James Gunn thinks he’ll bring Marvel fans plenty of cheer when his Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special slides down the chimney and onto Disney+. Gunn recently spoke with RadioTimes.com, where he proclaimed that the upcoming one-off event is “the greatest thing I’ve ever done in my life.”

“It’s totally ridiculous, and every day we can’t believe that we’re making it. We all completely love it. It is unlike anything that anyone’s ever seen before. I can’t wait for people to see it.

And it’s out pretty soon,” he added. “You know, it’s out this Christmas. It’s not like people have to wait that long.”

It’s been several years since the 2017 release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Thankfully, Gunn is ready and willing to return to the Guardians franchise grandly. With the holiday special aiming to be one of the most ambitious events ever captured on camera, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 poised to send Marvel’s team of misfits out with a bang, there’s no telling what can happen.

“Things are insane right now,” Gunn said about moonlighting at Marvel and DC. “I can’t believe it. I’m getting to do all this wonderful stuff, and I’m really grateful to the people that have been facilitating that. The people at HBO Max have just been incredible and are really just protectors of the creative process. And that’s been a wonderful situation to be in.”

Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special is the final puzzle piece for Marvel’s 2022 slate of releases. Throughout the year, other feature projects to look forward to are Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thor: Love and Thunder, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. There are also several Disney+ series on the way, such as Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel, She-Hulk, and What If…? Season 2.

It blows my mind when I think about everything that film and television studios have managed to accomplish during the pandemic. Things have been demanding all over, but Hollywood has endured, and we’re reaping many of the rewards. I’m excited to see what Gunn thinks is his finest achievement to date when Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Holiday Special arrives on Disney+ later this year.
