Are you like me in that you prefer practical effects over CGI? You do? Well then, it would appear that we both have something in common with filmmkaer James Gunn, who recently stated that his upcoming DC antihero film, THE SUICIDE SQUAD, will have "more practical effects than any big budget comic book film ever."

Gunn recently said as much while repsonding to a fan via Instagram, when asked if his Suicide Squad film will favor practical effects over CGI. To be clear, the full quote reads as follows: "There are more practical effects and sets in this film than any big budget comic book film ever." Later, Gunn doubled down on his claim courtesy of Twitter, by tweeting "CGI’s important. But I used practical effects whenever possible with #TheSuicideSquad – including the biggest, most beautiful sets I’ve ever seen by Beth Mickle, real locations, real costumes by Judianna Makovsky, pyrotechnics by Dan Sudick, prosthetic effects by Legacy & more."

And now for the Twitter post!

To be fair, CGI effects certainly have their place in cinema, no one, including me, is denying that. Some filmmakers simply prefer the hands-on approach when it comes to showering their actors with buckets of blood, or rigging a dummy with explosives that's set to explode on screen.

Written and directed by James Gunn, THE SUICIDE SQUAD stars a murderers' row of talent with Margot Robbie, Viola Davis, Joel Kinnaman, Jai Courtney, David Dastmalchian, John Cena, Joaquin Cosio, Nathan Fillion, Mayling Ng, Flula Borg, Sean Gunn, Juan Diego Botto, Storm Reid, Pete Davidson, Taika Waititi, Alice Braga, Steve Agee, Tinashe Kajese, Daniela Melchior, Peter Capaldi, Julio Ruiz, Jennifer Holland, Idris Elba and Michael Rooker all locked and loaded for the soft reboot of Task Force X in the DCEU.

THE SUICIDE SQUAD will look to kill many of your favorite DC characters on the big screen on August 6, 2021.
