Remember when the ads for 1408 came out, with the announcement that the film was directed by Mikael Hafstrom just before the trailer/ad finished? I remember. I also remember thinking “who the f*ck is Mikael Hafstrom?” We hadn’t heard of the guy before 1408, and we haven’t heard of him since… until now, that is.
According to Variety, producers Beau Flynn, Tripp Vinson, and Christy Fletcher have hired Hafstrom to direct the upcoming exorcism flick LAST RITE, based on the book by Matt Baglio. The book and the movie tells the story of a young man who joins a seminary and is soon recruited into the Vatican’s newly formed Exorcism School. There, he confronts the demonic and discovers his true faith by facing the devil.
Like a league of exorcists, fighting the devil, and crime and whatnot, while leading normal lives. In a way, it reminds me of parts of the Arnold Schwarzenegger shitfest END OF DAYS, as I seem to recall a group of Vatican priests who were privy to conducting exorcisms and whatnot. Except that movie sucked… here’s hoping LAST RITE will be better.
Considering Hafstrom’s success with 1408, I have high hopes that he’ll do a kick-ass job here. Let’s just hope he’s not a noe hit wonder…. Stick around for more on LAST RITES as we hear it!
