One of next year’s most anticiapted genre flicks would be Platinum Dunes’ remake of A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. That’s a given.. So that also means we’ll be bringing you every little news tidbit that hits the net concernning NIGHTMARE.

Today’s update isn’t exactly pointless though! SciFi Wire recently partook in an interview with the new Freddy Krueger himself Jackie Earle Haley! The interview was for Haley’s Fox TV series HUMAN TARGET but that didn’t stop the man from straying off topic a bit and speaking of the burned one…

“I just kept going, ‘Freddy Krueger?’ It’s such an iconic character. How could I not do that character?”

Haley doesn’t spill much, which is to be expected, but it is nice to hear the man talk about the film a bit considering this is kind of a big deal. He talks about the differences between the Freddy Krueger of the past and his portrayal: “We’re still true with the fedora, the sweater and the glove, but the mug is a little bit more based in reality. Our approach was to make him a little more serious. He’s a little less jokey.” What it’s like tackling, and starting over, such an established character:“As an actor, I’m one that’s willing to take risks. Especially as a character actor, I’ve got to be willing to go out and totally mess up. If I try to play it safe, I’m not going to be a very good actor.” As well as how many films he’s signed on for: “I’ve signed on to do a couple more, but it needs to be successful before they do that.” To read the rest of what Haley had to say you can head right over here.

NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET hits theaters everywhere on April 30, 2010.
