Hammer Films. Some truly great pieces of classic campy horror came from the studio in the 50s, 60s, and 70s, and it’s been over 25 years since the last time they made a movie (which was back in 1980 with THE TWO FACES OF EVIL). Some probably say good riddance for that, while others (like myself) say that we need to bring the truly campy horror back (and stay away from crappy horror), so why not bring the Hammer back? Well, according to The UnOfficial Hammer Films Site, we haven’t seen the last of Hammer Films by a long shot.
Looks like the production company is gearing up to make movies again after all, with their first film called BEYOND THE RAVE, which will likely play a lot like an earlier Hammer release, DRACULA A.D. 1972, featuring vampires and the underground drug scene, linking vampires and drugs together once again. Hey, DRACULA A.D. was funny as hell… so I guess I’m down to see what they can do with this one!
There’s not a whole lot else to work on, besides one cast member already being named, British actor Rick Warden (pictured), who will be playing the role of Strigioli. Can’t even tell if that’s vampire or a raver, but I suppose it doesn’t even matter at this point. Shot on 35mm film, RAVE is set to be released via a variety of shorts through the internet and mobile phones of all places… and nowhere near the theater. After 25 plus years, I guess anything is better than nothing at all!
