The man who ranked 27th on Rolling Stone’s Greatest Singers of all time list will finally have his life made movie, 56 years after his death at only 29. Although there HAS been a bio pic before in 1964, but starring George Hamilton. Hank with orange complexion? No so much…

Universal scored a first-look deal with Strike Entertainment and 821 Entertainment for the bio pic to be written by usually-producer Marc Abraham, with unprecedented access to the late-singer’s estate. The deal also has an option on Colin Escott’s book about Williams.

He was the first real star who went down as the result of his lifestyle, succeeded by Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin and Kurt Cobain,” Abraham told Variety. “He destroyed himself, but for six years leading to his death, Hank had six songs each year in the top 10.

821 also has deals in place to bring a film trilogy on Roy Rogers; maybe Disney will fast-track their LONE RANGER to be ahead of a new appreciation for old Cowboys. In the meantime, who would be perfect as the hard-living Hank?
