Dane DeHaan

Yesterday we got a first look at Dane DeHaan as Harry Osborn from THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 (you guys really hate emo hair, huh?) and now we have a little insight from the actor on his take on the character.

Harry Osborn has been portrayed three times by James Franco, but DeHaan believes he can still bring something new to the character, according to an interview he had with EW:

Ultimately my job is to portray a living, breathing human being and to act truthfully under imaginary circumstances. Sometimes you know that involves terrorizing an entire city [in Chronicle], sometimes that involves getting intimate with Michael C. Hall [in the upcoming Kill Your Darlings]. It’s certainly going be my version.

Dane DeHaan wouldn’t go into details but it does sound like his Harry could be a little darker than Franco’s version:

Everybody has their own set of circumstances and problems, and I think you know Harry Osborn certainly got a list of problems. Just because he goes home and sleeps in his penthouse at night and has a ton of money doesn’t mean he’s a happy person.

The best new addition to the franchise (in my opinion) is Dane DeHaan and I think he’s going to bring a level of intensity to Harry Osborn that we didn’t see from Franco in the Sam Raimi films. If you’ve read the comics you know that Osborn has some serious problems besides the whole “my Dad is the Green Goblin” issue, although a lot of his problems can certainly be blamed on that. Comic book characters and poor father/son relationships go hand in hand like strippers with their Daddy issues.

Dane DeHann newest film, THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES, is in theaters now and you can see him with Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx, Shailene Woodley, Chris Cooper, Paul Giamatti, and Sally Field when THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 hits theaters on May 2nd, 2014.
