It was just a few days ago that I told you all how the great Brian Cox was the newest name joining Rupert Wyatt’s RISE OF THE APES. Well here we are just a few days later and it seems Cox now has a son! That shite usually takes 9 months yo!
Seriously though, according to the folks over at Variety, Tom Felton has just signed on to star in the film as Cox’s son. Now Felton (right) is easily best known as ‘Draco Malfoy’ from the HARRY POTTER films… Actually, let’s face it, that’s all he’s known for. But hey, with the HARRY POTTER saga coming to a close soon it’s nice to see Felton reaching out for other roles. Here’s hoping the young actor can hold his own outside the wizard world!
Set in present day San Francisco, the origin story deals with the aftermath of man’s experiments with genetic engineering that lead to the development of intelligence in apes and the onset of a war for supremacy. A chimp named Caesar (Serkis) leads the uprising among the apes after having been raised by a father-and-son scientist duo.
Felton joins Cox, Andy Serkis, James Franco, Freida Pinto (below) and John Lithgow in the film. Not too shabby at all. RISE OF THE APES already has release date pegged for June 24, 2011 so expect more from the project soon!
