Will there be a Hell Fest Part 2?

Last Updated on July 21, 2021

Director Gregory Plotkin's amusement park slasher flick HELL FEST (pre-order HERE) arrives on Digital TODAY and on 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack (plus Blu-ray and Digital), Blu-ray Combo Pack (plus DVD and Digital), DVD, and On Demand from Lionsgate in January. I'm excited to check it out as I missed it in theaters. But now that the movie is hitting home video I guess it's a good time to start wondering: Will there be a sequel?

The answer seems to be a firm… maybe.

Plotkin recently spoke with our buddies over at Daily Dead about the film's Blu-ray release and was asked about whether or not a HELL FEST 2 was in the cards. Turns out the box office wasn't quite what people were hoping for, but Plotkin and his team have a lot of ideas for a sequel none the less, such as exploring Tony Todd’s character, but, unfortunately, it's not in Plotkin's hands right now.

Gregory Plotkin specifically said this about HELL FEST 2:

I'm not sure the box office was what people were hoping for a sequel. Everyone's been so wonderful from CBS, Lionsgate, Gale [Anne Hurd]. We have a lot of ideas. I think this is a character that we want to explore. I really want to explore Tony Todd’s character [and the fact that] he owns this place more. Tony is a phenomenal person and a phenomenal actor. He and I had a lot of conversations about it.

I have thought through quite a few fun new kills we could employ and some different scenarios. Six or seven years ago, these parks were not as elaborate and intricate as they were today. We have a lot of different geographical locations where we could stage a park. If we're lucky enough to do it, I would love to. But, unfortunately, it's not in my hands right now.

From what I'm reading, it looks like if the film is a hit on Blu-ray (which I'd imagine it will be) then there is a good chance the film will spawn a sequel (or six or seven). I haven't seen it yet so I can't say if I'd personally even WANT a part 2, but I'm watching it tonight so I guess we'll find out.

Plotkin directed the film from a screenplay written by Seth M. Sherwood and Blair Butler and Akela Cooper. It follows:

A group of friends are bound for a horror-themed Halloween event at a local amusement park — a sprawling labyrinth of rides, games, and mazes that travels the country and happens to be in town. But for one visitor, the ghoulish carnival of nightmares is not the attraction — it is a hunting ground. On the night the friends attend, a masked serial killer turns the amusement park into his own playground, terrorizing attendees while the rest of the patrons believe that it is all part of the show. As the body count and frenzied excitement of the crowd continues to rise, who will fight to survive the night?

The slasher stars Amy Forsyth (Channel Zero: No-End House), Reign Edwards, Bex Taylor-Klaus (MTVScream), and the legendary Tony Todd (CANDYMAN). Gale Anne Hurd (The Walking Dead) executive produced with Tucker Tooley. HELL FEST arrives on Digital TODAY and on 4K Ultra HD Combo Pack (plus Blu-ray and Digital), Blu-ray Combo Pack (plus DVD and Digital), DVD, and On Demand from Lionsgate on January 8th
