Hereditary’s Ari Aster and A24 reteam on horror project Midsommer

A24 won't be releasing writer/director Ari Aster's horror film HEREDITARY into theatres for another month, but the entertainment company is already working with the filmmaker on his next genre project, which has the working title MIDSOMMER.

As with HEREDITARY, Aster will be directing MIDSOMMER from his own screenplay. The film will tell the story of

a young woman, already dealing with the death of her parents, who joins her boyfriend and his friends on a trip to Sweden, specifically to a remote town with unique midsummer traditions. Things go south from there.

When I hear about remote towns having unique seasonal traditions, my mind immediately jumps to the conclusion that there are THE WICKER MAN style shenanigans going on.

MIDSOMMER is expected to go into production later this year, in either late summer or early fall.

While we wait to hear more about that project, HEREDITARY (which our own Chris Bumbray gave a 9/10 review) is scheduled to arrive in theatres on June 8th.
