Hexed teaser trailer: Disney’s magical new animated film reaches theatres this Thanksgiving

Disney has released a teaser trailer for their animated adventure Hexed, featuring the voices of Hailee Steinfeld and Rashida Jones

Disney has released the first teaser trailer for their animated fantasy film Hexed, giving us our first glimpse at the magical coming-of-age adventure that will arrive in theaters this Thanksgiving. The teaser can be seen in the embed above. Produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios, Hexed is set to hit theatres on November 25, 2026, before making its way to Disney+ in early 2027.

What is Hexed about?

Hexed will show us what happens when Billie, an impulsive and unconventional teenage girl, discovers magical abilities that take her from suburbia into Hexe, a realm of witches. With her cautious mother Alice, she investigates family secrets connected to the world of witches.

The project was first announced during Destination D23 in 2025 by Walt Disney Animation Studios chief creative officer Jared Bush. Interestingly, at that time the film was said to be about “an awkward teenage boy and his Type A mother after they discover that the boy’s unusual traits may be magical powers.” Over the course of the creative process, the teenage boy was replaced with a teenage girl. Josie Trinidad and Jason Hand were attached to direct at the time of the original announcement, and they were joined by Fawn Veerasunthorn.

Who’s in the Hexed voice cast?

Leading the cast are Hailee Steinfeld as Billie and Rashida Jones as Alice, Billie’s mother. Tracey Ullman voices the enchanted feather quill pen Ms. Quill, while Stephen Fry voices Elias Quire, a magical book. Here’s the line-up:

  • Hailee Steinfeld as Billie
  • Rashida Jones as Alice
  • Tracey Ullman as Ms. Quill
  • Stephen Fry as Elias Quire
  • Jim Hanks
  • CeeLo Green
  • Emilie-Claire Barlow

What has been said about Hexed?

Director Fawn Veerasunthorn provided the following information: “A wonderfully strange phenomenon is happening all around Billie, something she can’t explain. She’s someone who has felt miscast in her own life, and it takes leaving her normal world behind and entering a hidden world of wild, unhinged magic to begin to understand herself.

Co-director Jason Hand added, “Hexe is a place where Billie begins to feel seen for the first time in her life. She embarks on a journey of self-discovery that reveals a powerful connection to magic, and in the process uncovers long-held secrets about her family.

Roy Conli and Juan Pablo Reyes Lancaster-Jones are the producers of Hexed, with Jared Bush serving as an executive producer.

Disney previously showed off some early footage and concept material for Hexed at CinemaCon 2026. They also included the film as part of its Annecy Animation Festival programming.
