Just when you thought the U.S. censors were out of control, something happens on the other side of the world that emphasizes the fact that we don’t have it so bad around here, MPAA and all.
China has banned everything horror in preparation to cleanse the nation before the Bejing Olympics. I shit you not. Check out the report from Reuters: China has added ghosts, monsters and other things that go bump in the night to its list of banned video and audio content in an intensified crackdown ahead of the Beijing Olympics… Offending content included “wronged spirits and violent ghosts, monsters, demons, and other inhuman portrayals, strange and supernatural storytelling for the sole purpose of seeking terror and horror,” the administration said.
While I can appreciate China taking steps to clean up their image before the world watches over them via the Olympics, but banning everything horror (in audio/video format) is just ludicrous. Flippin’ crazy, is what it is… I can’t even believe it. Like I said before, if you thought the MPAA was tough, they’re a walk in the park compared to this shite.
