Birdbox sequel Malorie in development at Netflix, set 10 years later!

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

The horror film BIRD BOX starring Sanda Bullock was a surprise hit for Netflix, leading to a bunch of memes where people did things blindfolded (that were…often very dangerous…) But the film was based on a story by author Josh Malerman, which was about

When a mysterious force decimates the population, only one thing is certain — if you see it, you die. The survivors must now avoid coming face to face with an entity that takes the form of their worst fears. Searching for hope and a new beginning, a woman and her children embark on a dangerous journey through the woods and down a river to find the one place that may offer sanctuary. To make it, they'll have to cover their eyes from the evil that chases them — and complete the trip blindfolded.

Meanwhile, Malerman has recently written a book sequel to BIRD BOX called MALORIE, coming out soon. Furthermore, in an interview with Inverse promoting said book, Malerman had this to say about turning the sequel book into a sequel movie:

I can’t say much, but I can say that it is in development. Sometimes it’s weird, all this secrecy, but I’m game. Malorie opens at the school for the blind, which is where the movie ends. Then it jumps a few years later, and it really takes off 10 years after that.

Obviously no start or release date has been announced as of yet, but we'll definitely keep you updated! However, the book MALORIE (PRE-ORDER IT HERE) will be released July 21st

So what do you guys think? Any fans of the original BIRDBOX? If so, what do you think about the new sequel? Either way, sound off below!
