Charlie Manson & his Manson Girls finally starts production & aims for Cannes

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

The last update we got on Susanna Lo’s MANSON GIRLS> came months ago. Six months to be more precise. And apparently the thing hadn’t even enterted production yet! Until today… dun dun dun!

The kind folks over at Variety decided to share the news that MANSON GIRLS has finally gone into production with Lo directing, writing and producing through her Slomotion Studios banner alongside Judy Fox, Brett Cranford and Taryn Manning.

Announced at last year’s Sundance festival, MANSON GIRLS will focuse on the period leading up to the 1969 murders of nine people. Manson and three followers were convicted in 1971 in the slayings. Lo says she’s aiming to illustrate how and why the girls came under Manson’s command. Sounds entertaining enough. Check out what else Lo had to say:

“The girls were all very talented but it was a very seductive time.We really don’t want to sensationalize the story any further than it already has been. I’ve always been fascinated by how the girls came under the spell of this strange, manipulative man.”

The cast for this one includes Taryn Manning (above) as ‘Sadie Atkins;’ Tania Raymonde as ‘Leslie Van Houten;’ Monica Keena (below) as ‘Squeaky Fromme;’ Stella Maeve as ‘Linda Kasabian;’ Estella Warren as ‘Catherine Share;’ Chad Faust as ‘Tex Watson;’ Ron Jeremy as a porn director; Eric Balfour as ‘Bobby Beausoleil’ and Bill Moseley as ‘Charlie Manson.’ Ron Jeremy as a porn director? Talk about thinking outside the box!

Apparently half a dozen scenes have been shot so far to assemble a “sizzle reel,” though the bulk of the filming is set to start early next year in Redlands, Joshua Tree and San Francisco. Music wise the film will feature Guy Allison and John McFee of The Doobie Brothers. Ray Manzarek and Robbie Krieger of The Doors have come on board to write songs while Warren has been tapped to perform “House of the Rising Sun.” Manning’s is singing “California Dreaming” and Mosely is set to do “Five to One.”

So there you have it folks! It’s rare you get a flick that gives so much detail away yet still keeps you intrigued isn’t it? Now that MANSON GIRLS is finally in production I’m sure we can expect a lot more updates soon.
