Dante talks Gremlins 3

Last Updated on July 26, 2021

It’s no secret most, if not all, of us here at AITH dig GREMLINS. It’s one of The Arrow’s faves and the rest of us are pretty big on it too. What’s not to love? It’s a great Christmas movie that plays as a kid’s flick with some pretty creepy Gremlins involved. Alright… now that I have you all thinking about the classic with smiles on your faces… let’s talk about it’s potential sequel/remake!

There’s been rumblings since I can remember on a GREMLINS 3. To be fair there was never anything close to solid on that front… just loads and loads of rumors. Well those rumors continue today with Empire recently catching up with GREMLINS director Joe Dante to talk about those crazy little bastards. Dante didn’t confirm much… just that he’s hearing another GREMLINS flick might be coming our way soon:

“I hear they’re going to make another one soon. I can see why – it would be stupid to let that title go to waste. The actors from the first two are too old to do a proper sequel, so I’m sure when the new one arrives it will be a remake of the original.”

So Empire wanted to know what the deal was. Is Dante just hearing meaningless rumblings or is something really going down? They went to GREMLINS creator Chris Columbus for confirmation and got nothing: “I haven’t heard about it. If they do the monsters with CGI, I don’t know if it would be the same. They should go back and do it with puppets again, though at this point I wouldn’t be interested in being involved.”

I’m going to go ahead and agree with Dante on this that there’s a much better chance at a remake than a sequel… or how about a real-time sequel? Like maybe the flick takes place 20 years after the second one with a whole new group of characters. That leaves room for a cameo or two and stays away from the dreaded remake. Anything would be better than a remake, right?

Oh Phoebe…
