Denis Villeneuve’s DUNE will not have any link to David Lynch’s version

I remember seeing David Lynch's take on DUNE when I was way too young. I was used to flicks like STAR WARS and the godd*amn EWOK ADVENTURE when my father sprang Lynch's film on me.

Needless to say, I didn't get it and Baron Harkonnen scared the absolute hell out of me.

In the years since, however, I have become a fan of what Lynch did with the film. Maybe because I'm a massive Lynch fan, or maybe it's because Lynch made a good flick – despite what purists think.

It looks like director Villeneuve's take on DUNE is still on track – which is good to know considering I assumed it to be canceled after the lackluster performance of BLADE RUNNER 2049 at the box office.

But, yes, his DUNE film is currently being written and the director told Yahoo! recently that the film will not be anything like David Lynch's version.

Denis Villeneuve on DUNE:

David Lynch did an adaptation in the ’80s that has some very strong qualities. I mean, David Lynch is one of the best filmmakers alive, I have massive respect for him. But when I saw his adaptation, I was impressed, but it was not what I had dreamed of, so I’m trying to make the adaptation of my dreams.

He continued:

It will not have any link with the David Lynch movie. I’m going back to the book, and going to the images that came out when I read it.
