Are You Afraid of the Dark movie will honor the show's dark and scary tone

It was only late last night that we shared the breaking news with you guys that IT's Gary Dauberman was going to be penning Paramount's upcoming feature film based on the classic kid's horror anthology series ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK?

And now, just a few hours later, we have word via Dauberman himself on the film. He spoke about his new gig to THR and let us fans (aka The Midnight Society) know what we can expect from the film.

Gary Dauberman on ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK?:

The show is about the shared experience of telling stories — especially scary ones. We're going to celebrate that with this movie and honor the darker, scarier tone of the show, which was really groundbreaking for Nickelodeon at the time. I hope the Midnight Society approves.

I don't know about you guys, but this flick is now my top must-see movie. High expectations? Sure thing. But I had super high expectations for IT and that film didn't disappoint so let's keep the ball rolling!

This spooky anthology series for kids recounts ghost stories told by the young members of the Midnight Society as they gather around a campfire. Each episode opens with members of the Midnight Society at their secret spot in the woods, where they prepare their fire and the night's storyteller announces the title of the his or her offering. However, the cameras soon leave the storyteller and switch to the tale being told.

We'll let you know as soon as we hear more about ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK? But until then you can always buy the complete series on DVD right over HERE!
