Ghostbusters 3 eying Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone and Melissa McCarthy?!

The massive Sony email hack is once again bringing stunning developments to light. Just the other day we brought you the surprising news that the studio is planning a MEN IN BLACK/21 JUMP STREET crossover, and today we've got one or two blockbuster updates on GHOSTBUSTERS 3. This was bound to happen.

First up, some really huge names are being considered to star in the Paul Feig movie. (Bigger names than Rebel Wilson, that's for sure.) According to an email from Sony Pictures exec Amy Pascal to GHOSTBUSTERS producer Ivan Reitman, a few of the most prominent actresses working today are in the mix for the all-female reboot of the franchise.

Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, Melissa McCarthy, Lizzy Caplan and comedian Amy Schumer. Whoa.

Here's portion of the email from Pascal to Reitman regarding Feig's movie:

“Paul's movie is gonna be the first one and from what I'm hearing jennifer lawrence and Emma stone and Melissa McCarthy and Amy schumer and liszzy [Lizzy] Kaplan just to name a few have already said thy wanted to be in....”

McCarthy and Emma Stone have always made perfect sense, but Lawrence's inclusion is a whopper. Naturally, we shouldn't assume these ladies will actually appear in the movie (once it gets made), but just knowing they're interested should give you something to chew on this weekend.

In other news, it would seem Sony was considering suing Bill Murray over his well-known reluctance to participate in a third GHOSTBUSTERS movie. Not sure if they have a leg to stand on as far as that's concerned, but that doesn't stop David Steinberg, head of Sony Pictures Entertainment’s legal department, from bringing it up to a colleague in an email:

In order to more fully evaluate our position if Bill Murray again declines to engage on ‘Ghostbusters’, AG requested that we identify ‘aggressive’ litigation counsel with whom we can consult to evaluate our alternatives and strategize... Personally, while I’m fine with aggressive, I think we are in much worse shape if this goes public so seems to me we should look for someone who isn’t seeking the spotlight.”

Yikes. Well, maybe once Bill finds out Emma Stone might be in the film, he'll change his mind; they've worked well together before...

Extra Tidbit: Are you on board with these actresses being considered for GHOSTBUSTERS 3?
