Where there are giant monsters, there's a chance Chinese actress Jing Tian might be there as well. Having wrapped work on both KONG: SKULL ISLAND and the Matt Damon period piece creature feature THE GREAT WALL, Tian has now signed on to co-star in the sequel to Guillermo del Toro's 2013 "mech vs. kaiju" film PACIFIC RIM.

No details have been revealed about Tian's character. She joins a cast that so far includes John Boyega, Cailee Spaeny, and Scott Eastwood. Boyega's character is the son of the character played by Idris Elba in del Toro's film.

PACIFIC RIM 2 (not the offical title) is being directed by Steven S. DeKnight from a screenplay written by JURASSIC WORLD's Derek Connolly. del Toro remains attached as a producer, alongside Thomas Tull, Mary Parent, Jon Jashni, Boyega, and Femi Oguns. Cale Boyter is executive producing.

Universal Pictures will be distributing the sequel everywhere around the world except for China, where distribution is being handled by Legendary Pictures and their parent company Wanda.

Filming on PACIFIC RIM 2 is scheduled to begin in November and will take place in Australia and China. The movie is set to reach theatres on February 23, 2018.
