J. J. Abrams' GOD PARTICLE won't let a little casting slip-up ruin its collection of a zanily eclectic group of stars. Although The Office star turned big screen heartthrob John Krasinski has dropped out of the cast, Chris O'Dowd is suiting up to take his place. The role that he'll be taking over is that of an astronaut, and that's all we know so far.

Although O'Dowd is probably best known for his role in the British series The IT Crowd, he's appeared in films as wide-ranging as BRIDESMAIDS and THOR 2: THE DARK WORLD. He's also had a prominent recurring role on the HBO series Girls. He's mostly worked in comedy, so it's interesting that he's going for straight sci-fi, but in a world where Danny McBride is appearing in the next ALIEN fick, anything is possible.

GOD PARTICLE:

takes place in the near future. It centers on a team of astronauts who make a terrifying discovery that challenges all they know about the fabric of reality, as they desperately fight for their survival.

GOD PARTICLE stars David Oyelowo (SELMA) and Gugu Mbatha-Raw (BEYOND THE LIGHTS), with Daniel Brühl (CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR) and Elizabeth Debicki (THE GREAT GATSBY) on board as well. It's directed by Julius Onah. The film is set to hit theaters on February 24, 2017.
