Jordan Peele praises Midsommar’s atrociously & disturbing imagery

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

HEREDITARY writer/director Ari Aster's new film MIDSOMMAR has been scheduled to reach theatres the week of Independence Day. An "apocalyptic breakup", "Scandinavian folk horror" tale along the lines of THE WICKER MAN, MIDSOMMAR has been described as "WIZARD OF OZ for perverts". And today we have word that GET OUT writer-director Jordan Peele has seen the film and loved it. Particularly for its "atrociously disturbing imagery."

Jordan Peele on MIDSOMMAR:

… After it ended, I found myself looking back at the final act like, “Holy s???.” That was some of the most atrociously disturbing imagery I’ve ever seen on film… Anything after Midsommar is going to have to contend with it. I mean, this usurps The Wicker Man as the most iconic pagan movie to be referenced.

That sure is some high praise, huh? Usurps THE WICKER MAN, eh, Jordan Peele? That's a bold statement. And just like that, I think this has just become THE horror movie to see this summer. Do you agree? Let us know below! The story follows

a teenage guy who wants to break up with his girlfriend, however, holds off after a personal tragedy. This emotional build-up happens to be occurring as both are headed to a crazy 9-day festival, which only happens every 90 years, a Swedish-puritan type celebration of love and glee — with some horrific results.

Florence Pugh, Jack Reynor, Will Poulter, Vilhem Blomgren, William Jackson Harper, Ellora Torchia, and Archie Madekwe star in the flick which had been scheduled to reach theatres on August 9th, but now distributor A24 has decided to move the release forward a whole month and so it will now be arriving in theatres on Wednesday, July 3rd. Check out the new trailer below along with the poster and then let us know what you think thus far!
