Martyrs remake gets a January release date

It was way back in June when we heard that Anchor Bay had picked up the distribution rights to the American remake of Pascal Laugier's 2008 French film MARTYRS. Those of you who have been waiting on pins and needles and torture racks to find out when exactly the release date will be, rejoice! Anchor Bay has announced that they will be releasing the film in theatres and on digital HD on January 22, 2016.

In just over a month and a half, we will find out how this new take on the concept will live up to its famously brutal predecessor.

The MARTYRS redux was directed by Kevin and Michael Goetz from a screenplay by Mark L. Smith.

Ten-year-old Lucie flees from the isolated warehouse where she has been held prisoner. Deeply traumatized, she is plagued by awful night terrors at the orphanage that takes her in. Her only comfort comes from Anna, a girl her own age. Nearly a decade later and still haunted by demons, Lucie finally tracks down the family that tortured her. As she and Anna move closer to the agonizing truth, they find themselves trapped in a nightmare – if they cannot escape, a martyr’s fate awaits them...

Troian Bellisario and Bailey Noble star. The film is a co-production of Blumhouse and The Safran Company.

Honestly, I would be fine with never watching the original MARTYRS again. The film doesn't do enough for me overall to make it worth sitting through that extended torture sequence. However, I am interested in seeing how this remake turned out.

Extra Tidbit: Will you be watching the MARTYRS remake?
