Neil Marshall is going Troll Hunting

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

Way back in 2011, Chris Columbus’ 1492 Pictures picked up the rights to remake the Norwegian found footage flick TROLL HUNTER, and despite the overwhelming amount of remakes we've seen lately this is one I think fans will be be on board with. Why you ask? According to Deadline, none other than Neil Marshall has been pinned to write and direct the upcoming remake. Hell yes!

Here's what the original flick is about:

The government says there’s nothing to worry about it’s just a problem with bears making trouble in the mountains and forests of Norway. But local hunters don’t believe it and neither do a trio of college students who want to find out the truth. Armed with a video camera, they trail a mysterious poacher, who wants nothing to do with them. However, their persistence lands them straight in the path of the objects of his pursuits: trolls. They soon find themselves documenting every move of this grizzled, unlikely hero the trollhunter risking their lives to uncover the secrets of creatures only thought to exist in fairy tales.

Right now the film is eyeing an early 2014 production start with a $25 million budget. The remake is being produced by Christopher Columbus, Michael Barnathan, CJ Entertainment, John Jacobsen, and Sveinung Golimo. The original draft of the script was written by Marc Haimes, but Neil Marshall will actually be rewriting it. There has been no casting news just yet, but apparently they are aiming high for the male lead, and are looking to snag a star not normally associated with the genre. Should be interesting!
