New Amityville film lands director of Never Sleep Again

Last Updated on July 31, 2021

It was only two days ago now that we shared the news that there was a new AMITYVILLE HORROR flick in the works called THE HAUNTING ON LONG ISLAND: THE AMITYVILLE MURDERS and this time the film would forgo the Lutz family and instead focus on the real-life murder of the DeFeo family.

I was really excited by this news as I think that is the truly chilling tale to be told in the AMITYVILLE universe and now today we have news that the upcoming flick has scored itself a director in the form of Daniel Farrands.

Farrands is known around these parts for writing HALLOWEEN: THE CURSE OF MICHAEL MYERS, THE GIRL NEXT DOOR, and HAVENHURST. He also produced THE HAUNTING IN CONNECTICUT and the upcoming AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING – which he was a one time slated to direct.

But more interesting still is Farrands also has an extensive directing career having guided the horror retrospectives CRYSTAL LAKE MEMORIES, SCREAM: THE INSIDE STORY, NEVER SLEEP AGAIN, and HIS NAME WAS JASON among others.

Now, I don't know about you, but the thought of the man behind such great horror retrospectives finally getting his chance behind the camera on a new AMITYVILLE HORROR flick is a good sign to me. More horror fans should be the ones making the movies, right?

We here at AITH will keep you guys up to date on THE HAUNTING ON LONG ISLAND: THE AMITYVILLE MURDERS as more news pours in, but until then let us know what YOU think of the new flick on Facebook, Twitter, and/or Instagram!

THE HAUNTING ON LONG ISLAND: THE AMITYVILLE MURDERS synopsis:

On the night of November 13, 1974, Ronald DeFeo, Jr. took a high-powered rifle and murdered his entire family as they slept. At his trial, DeFeo claimed that “voices” in the house commanded him to kill. Thirteen months later, the Lutz family bought the house and stayed only 28 days before fleeing in terror. Their nightmarish ordeal shocked the world in The Amityville Horror. The Lutzes may have escaped from Amityville with their lives … but the DeFeo’s weren’t so lucky. This is their story.”

Cintel Films is currently looking for funding for the new Amityville flick so until then we have the Bella Thorne/Jennifer Jason Leigh AMITYVILLE: THE AWAKENING hitting theaters (supposedly) June 30th.
