New Friday the 13th film not a sequel or reboot, might be set in the 80s

The new FRIDAY THE 13th movie that is simmering over at Platinum Dunes hasn't made much progress in the last few years. Last we heard it might be found footage, and it might be directed by V/H/S contributor David Bruckner, but the proof is in the pudding and we just haven't seen any pudding yet. Is this thing still writing, or is it DOA?

According to the Platinum Dunes boys who are in São Paulo to pimp Platinum Dunes projects, it's still on. In an interview with Portuguese site Omelete, Brad Fuller and Andrew Form say that the new flick will neither be a sequel or remake to their 2009 effort.

(Note: This is very roughly translated.)

"We did a reboot in 2009 and now in 2014 we are focusing on a different story of Jason. This will not be a continuation of the 2009 film nor a remake of the original It's just a different story.

The site also says they were told that "the film will likely take place during the 80's because the producers want to recover the feel of the first film." Not sure how you would classify this then, because the 2009 version most certainly wasn't set in the 80s, so either this is a prequel (Mrs. Voorhees??) or it's just another remake. But now we know the boys are indeed still plugging away on a new entry.

What do you think?
