Porn and revenge collide in found footage thriller Lucky Bastard

Last Updated on August 2, 2021

And we have another found footage flick for ya, this one set in the wild world of the porn industry. Yeah, I know what you may be thinking: you’ve made a few skin flicks yourself with your own camera, so what sets this one apart? Well for starters, this one comes to us from director Robert Nathan, who worked as a producer on the hit television shows LAW & ORDER and DRAGNET, and is produced by horror veteran Jim Wynorski (RETURN OF THE SWAMP THING, NOT OF THIS EARTH) with editing duties handled by HELLBOUND: HELLRAISER II director Tony Randel. So unless your home movie had a production crew like that one behind it, I can’t say many of us would be interested in seeing it. Well, I might…

The film is titled LUCKY BASTARD and takes its inspiration from porn flicks in which an average Joe is selected to sleep with a real porn star on camera.  In the film the porno series is called ‘Lucky Bastard’ and the average Joe, a strange fella named Dave G. (Jay Paulson) turns out to be a bit vindictive. Here’s the synopsis:

The story centers on Mike (Don McManus), who runs the Lucky Bastard website; Dave (Jay Paulson), a young fan given a chance to have sex with a porn actress; and Ashley Saint (Betsy Rue), the porn star who reluctantly agrees to participate in the website’s “have sex with a porn star” contest. In the end, everyone gets more than they bargained for when the seemingly mild-mannered Dave is irrevocably transformed by his experience. When, as Ashley predicted, Dave becomes humiliated, his personality is transformed and he seeks revenge on his tormentors. In this world, where everyone is safe within its borders, an outsider poses the ultimate danger.

Hey, if ol’ Dave G. isn’t up for the challenge, where do I sign up?

Unsurprisingly the film was just slapped with the dreaded NC-17 rating but the producers are not upset, stating that…

LUCKY BASTARD features less sex than the typical late-night Cinemax erotica—and no actual sex—but the rating is appropriate. Our society should have a place for thoughtful artistic dramas intended for adult audiences.

We’ll keep ya updated with distribution news on LUCKY BASTARD as we hear it.
