Righteous! Bill & Ted Face the Music begins filming this summer

Last Updated on July 30, 2021

Back in May of last year, we passed along the righteous news that Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter will officially be back for the third entry in the Bill & Ted series with BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC! I'm not sure if we should be covering BILL & TED movies here on AITH, but considering each and every one of us has not only seen the two films in the series but LOVE them as well, I think it's safe to say we can at least share this news here today.

It looks like BILL & TED 3 will finally start shooting this summer! This is real this time. This is no false alarm. Yes, after 27 years Ted “Theodore” Logan (Reeves) and Bill S. Preston Esq. (Winter) will return with the new film which is all set to be directed by Dean Parisot (GALAXY QUEST). The franchise's original creators Chris Matheson and Ed Solomon have penned the script.

The third (and final?) film's official plot synopsis goes a little something like this:

When we last met Bill and Ted they were time-traveling teenagers trying to pass history class and win the battle of the bands. Once prophesized to save the universe with their rock and roll, middle age and the responsibilities of family have caught up with these two best friends who have not yet fulfilled their destiny. They’ve written thousands of tunes, but they have yet to write a good one, much less the greatest song ever written. With the fabric of time and space tearing around them, a visitor from the future warns our heroes that only their song can save life as we know it. Out of luck and fresh out of inspiration, Bill and Ted set out on a time travel adventure to seek the song that will set their world right and bring harmony in the universe as we know it. Together with the aid of their daughters, a new crop of historical figures, and some sympathetic music legends, Bill and Ted find much, much more than just a song.

BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC is currently in pre-production and heading towards a summer shoot. When the film is done and in the can (or, you know, the time-traveling telephone booth) MGM will release it in the U.S. under their Orion Pictures banner. Just like the original. This is all too much glorious nostalgia for me. But I'll take it! We'll let you know when we hear more, but until then: Excellent Adventure or Bogus Journey?
