Saw/Feast scribes Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan get into the literary game

Last Updated on August 5, 2021

Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton have to be the busiest mofos in the horror genre. Right now they’re penning PIRANHA 3DD for Dimension as well as working on their follow-up to THE COLLECTOR and THE OUTER LIMITS film. In five years they wrote three FEAST movies and four SAW movies – not to mention HELLRAISER (although that was for naught since Patrick Lussier and Todd Farmer are now on board that boat) and who knows how many other things.

And in the midst of all that, the boys have somehow found time to write a book! Deadline.com reports that Melton and Dunstan have just made a deal for their first novel, a supernatural detective story titled BLACKLIGHT. Here’s the synopsis:

The book is the story of a ghost hunter private eye with psychic abilities who is hired to take the inaugural ride on the new bullet train that goes directly from Los Angeles to Las Vegas. His job is to figure out if the train’s haunted, but each case he takes on fuels his own lifelong obsession: to locate the spirits of his parents who were the victims of an unsolved murder when he was a child.

While there’s nothing about a film adaptation in the Deadline article, I’d have to imagine that these guys wouldn’t turn down the chance to bring BLACKLIGHT to the big screen.

The duo plan on making the ghost hunter character, Buck Carlsbad, the lead in a series of books. These guys love their franchises, don’t they?
