Soderbergh’s Side Effects loses funding from Annapurna, what’s this mean for the actors?

Last Updated on July 23, 2021

A temporary setback I’m sure, but it looks like the funding for Steven Soderbergh’s new thriller SIDE EFFECTS has fell through…

Last week we told you Open Road was set to distribute the psychopharmacology thriller, with Blake Lively (seen right), Channing Tatum and Jude Law attached to star. Now however, as a result of Annapurna Pictures holding on to its check book, who knows if those actors will retain interest. To make things even more irksome, word came in that Catherine Zata-Jones (below) had been attached as well.

But we shouldn’t be discouraged yet. With Sundance in full effect, Soderbergh, writer Scott Z. Burns and their team are confident financing will be found in the next week or so. As always, we’ll keep you abreast with whatever transpires.

As for the plot:

A troubled and depressed woman (Lively) is taking serious amounts of prescription drugs, which leads her into a relationship with a doctor (Law). Her intake is ostensibly designed to help her deal with the anxiety surrounding the pending release of her husband (Tatum) from prison.
